How CPR and AED Training Saves Lives In The Workplace
Posted by CPR Training New Jersey
There Are 10,000 Instances of Cardiac Arrest In The Workplace Each Year
Most instances of cardiac arrest don’t occur in a hospital -- they occur at home or in the workplace. Which means if you do save a life by knowing CPR, or how to use an AED, it’s most likely the life of someone you know. Unfortunately, the American Heart Association estimates that most people (over 70%) either never learned CPR, or they’ve let their training lapse.
If you own or manage a business, you can help protect your workers and their families (and cut your own liability) by offering comprehensive, on-the-job CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training that’s convenient, effective -- and life saving.
CPR Improves Outcomes -- But Only If You Use It
Numerous studies have shown that the quicker medical intervention is applied in the event of an emergency, the better the overall outcome. Waiting for emergency responders can result in a fatality rate of as much as 93% -- and, unfortunately, CPR is only administered in about 32% of emergency instances.
Unfortunately, many bystanders are afraid their intervention could put them in legal danger. But with proper training, use of CPR or an AED by a volunteer is protected by law in the state of New Jersey.
Early intervention with CPR and AED deployment can have real, lifesaving effects; bystander-issued CPR has been found to reduce the chances of anoxic brain injury in survivors by as much as 50%.
Pediatric CPR and AED: Another Skillset Altogether
Infants and children need special care -- and never is that more true than in the event of an emergency. Companies that work with or around children or provide onsite childcare should ensure that all of their workers are trained on pediatric CPR and AED use.
Even if all of your designated childcare workers are CPR-certified, it’s a good idea to train any supplemental or additional employees as well. Not only does this cut your liability as an employer, it also reassures parents and coworkers alike.
